SOLITUDE JOURNAL: REWRITING INNER NARRATIVES

Inner narratives could be seen as our driving force to do things in this life. The stories that we keep on telling ourselves eventually become our beliefs that guide our actions. In some cases it can be a wonderful creative driving force, but more often than not, it is a detrimental force, that slowly eats away our everyday moments of being alive. If we are not careful enough, they start to take complete control of our beings.

Sometimes and most often times the scripts we use aren't even our own. We bring them from our childhood and our societal cultures. Suddenly we cannot understand why are we depriving ourselves of joy, or why is it so hard to wake up happy (for no reason other than being joyful to celebrate life, with all that is).

I am just like many others, struggle with my inner narratives and sometimes they do have a very strong grip on my reality. This year I made a pact with myself to carefully observe, analyse and explore them, as the way I lived my life for the most part (on autopilot narratives fuelled with stress and lack) are not working for me.

I refuse to follow the traditional narrative of 'hustle, achieve, earn, prove yourself to others and then you might find joy'.

I choose (even when it feels impossible to me) to prioritise ease, rest and joy, by simply taking care of my basic human needs and shifting my attention to every little thing that brings joy.

There's so much joy to be had, even if you (according to societal norms) have very little to show for it.
